The Columbia Prep School Interscholastic Athletic Program is a natural extension of the high school curriculum that provides activities for the growth and development of our students. As an out growth of the school’s philosophy of a well-rounded education, the program focus on the intellectual and moral development of the athlete and gives athletes a basis for learning. We look for growth and development in the area of character, personality, sportsmanship, teamwork and skill. We hope that the student will learn to compete with pride and honor, to gain an appreciation for sports and to develop responsibility.
CGPS has a strong participation rate in our athletic program. About 57% of the student body is on one or more of the 39 competitive teams we offer for grades 7 through 12. All coaches hired are well versed in their individual sport. Student-athletes health, safety and well being is overseen by a full-time Athletic trainer at Columbia Prep.
In accordance with our philosophy of athletics and our desire to see as many students as possible participate in the athletic program at Columbia Prep School, we encourage coaches to select as many students as they can without compromising the integrity of their sport. Time, space, facilities, equipment, athletic ability and other factors will place limitations on the most effective squad size for any particular sport. However, when developing procedure in this regard, coaches strive to maximize the opportunities for student athletes without diluting the quality of the programs.
